Dogs Needing Homes in North Carolina

Dogs are coming into Animal Control every day. Dogs that have been there more than 3 days need to move elsewhere. In order to rescue them we must have kennel space for them. We have dogs that are in need of funding so that we can move them to a new home or to another rescue. The dogs below are in foster care or in the limited number kennels at our facility. They must be moved to rescues or adopters so fosters and rescue kennels have room for dogs running out of time at Animal Control. What happens when animal control run out of space?!

We are in a poor rural area and there are often more adoption opportunities for dogs elsewhere. Many of the dogs that end up at Animal Control are surrendered or dumped because they need medical treatment. We cannot pass on a sick dog so we have to get them vetted first. Most often we are the ones who have the dogs neutered, treated for heartworm, etc. We do not have a rich benefactor. We rely on donations to save these dogs and give them a new happy life.

Why do I need to pay for a puppy?

We do not have a rich benefactor to support saving these dogs lives, we rely on donations from the public. The pups have to be inspected by a vet, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped before they can leave the shelter. More people are interested in puppies so we charge for them to provide funds for the older dogs that require expensive medication E.g. for removing heartworm infestation.

What can you do to help?
  • Adopt a dog from Rainbow Animal Rescue NC - Not only does this save the life of the dog you adopt, it allows space for another dog in need. It also provides us with much needed funds.
  • Foster a dog until we can find it a permanent home - This will allow us to rescue another 'at risk' dog from animal control.
  • Find a rescue that will take some of our dogs - rescues in northeastern states are more likely to have room.
